Today I got some street cred with my students.

As it is our day to dress up, I decided to be the rainbow filter from Snapchat. One of my students LOVES Twitter, and I wanted to connect with him by sharing the above photo. He was so excited and announced it to other students in the classroom. There buzz around the room of students gasping and being in awe. I took a brief moment to mention how quickly things can spread on the internet/Twitter.
Felt good that I made that connection with my students.
I chose this particular “costume” as we had also recently began #booksnaps in my classroom. I thought it would be a great way to be culturally relevant with my students.
Be interested in or at least KNOW what students like as far as pop culture goes. Use it as a way to build connections and also stay relevant.
The past three years have had major life changes for me. I got married and had first my child. Returning to work Aug. 2016 was HARSH. I’m still struggling with keeping up with the times and not being utterly exhausted (read cranky) every day from lack of sleep.

I am slowly get back it!
OH, it was awesome that Snapchat retweeted my photo too.
I really like how you were able to turn this quick flash of fame back to your students to show them how connections happen on the Internet. Awesome costume too!
