One of my favorite units to teach for Grade 8, MYP Year 3, is the Bias In Media. Throughout the unit we look at ways news, entertainment, and even ourselves have bias.

Students study news, tv, songs, commercials, and print ads. They try to find ways that bias is included in each type of media. News bias is different from TV & Songs which are all different for commercials and print ads. Students had to determine what they had in common, what was different, and why being aware of all types of biases is important.

One resource that I discovered this year was Checkology.
The News Literacy Project, Checkology creators, has a very powerful and informing tool that many students valued during this unit.
