What began as a normal, regular unit has now delved into a monstrosity of its own. I mean this in the best way possible. The instance where the unit becomes an entity and part of the classroom. Where students are eager to discover what they can find.
I have heard some of the best discussions come from this unit. I can hardly finish giving my instructions and students are eager to begin. I sincerely believe it is the relevancy of this unit. It matters to them because it is something that they encounter on a daily basis; bias in media.

Recently, they were quested with proving bias and stereotypes in songs that they had to find. Of course, they were excited to listen to music in class! They also were excited to discuss their finds and see what their peers had discovered.
I will admit that they struggled with detecting bias in news as I mentioned in my previous post. And that they had a difficult time framing the stereotypes they found in songs. However, the way they have been communicating and some of their analysis has been remarkable.

Next up: Advertising, Videos, TV, and Film. I think I could frame an entire year out of this one unit. Hence, how this unit has gotten out of control.
