RUA: Using Technology

When working with Philip Altman (@pgjaltman) on this final project, it was reaffirmed how conscientious and meticulous one needs to be to collaborate. The process was amazingly smooth and it was wonderful to collaborate. Phil and I worked extremely well together. However, the first attempt at a hangout and my sound is not working. I have no idea why it isn’t working. I checked all my settings and everything seemed fine. After calling my IT department, I had used my adapter today to show a movie and the sound doesn’t work sometimes after that. I had to restart my computer and all was well. I did not feel like this was the best first impression to make. After discussing what we wanted to do, we began to share resources and ideas. After taking our ideas and creating a Coggle, I didn’t share the editing rights correctly at first. Then, I had to go back and reread how to share them. Finally, that was settled. I think the most important parts of this process after being intentional to collaborate were a common goal and dividing up the work. Forcing collaboration without a common goal just won’t work. Also, we divided the work load and then came back to share and look over what the other had accomplished.

After our initial hangout, we started a Google Doc and brainstormed ideas. We had another hangout a week later to discuss and divide up the work. After seeing my friend/colleague, Whitney (@wlittle), work on her final project, I felt inspired to attempt something I had never tried before. I wanted to keep it simple and yet get the information across. After I created the Coggle, I shared it with Phil and he made some amazing changes to it.Phil then created a Google Doc, RUA, that had the NET standards and the information we have on the Coggle. (It is also linked on the Coggle.)

We wanted to create something simple for students and teacher when it comes to using technology. It revolved around maintaining a more positive effort than just what students can’t do.

Collaborative Coggle

Overall, I am very pleased with what we accomplished. I am happy with the work that we did as well as how smoothly the communication went. I think it went so smoothly because we divided up the work, communicated as needed along the way, and made time to discuss what we hoped to accomplish.

Want collaboration to work?

Communicate and be intentional!

  1. Terea, I am really impressed by the depth of the ramifications drawn by your map. I noticed that your listed Google Safety Center under Discovery and Learning but not under Safety. What made you choose this option? How did you arrive at the list you drew under Discovery and Learning?

    1. Victor, thank you for your kind words. I gained a lot of information just trying to figure out different ways to edit in Coggle.

My reasoning for listing it under Discovery and Learning was because it listed resources and information. That particular strand/branch is mostly for teachers as starting point for teaching the other strands/branches in the map.

I wanted teachers to have a quick list of resources to use for instructional purposes. Teachers don’t have to do the searching for resources.
