Our school implementing MYP beginning with sixth and seventh grade. Creating an inquiry based unit requires a certain mindset to ensure that the right questions are being asked.
I set the unit up by telling them that they were detectives and it was their job to solve the mystery. Some of them took it quite literally and it was exciting to see them delve into the research to determine whether it could truly be solved.
Reflection:
Students really struggled with remembering to cite all their pictures and where they gathered their evidence. Several of them had to go back and do the research again because I would not grade it without it being cited. I think I could have spent more time helping them to make sure that all their work was cited. Bibme or Easybib was used to keep track of where they gathered their research. I attempted to have them published on their blogs, but the file was too large. Eventually, I gave up on have them posted because it seems to difficult a task to accomplish.
